Tom Kean Jr. Chose War Over Affordable Health Care

Soaring premiums.
Threats to Medicaid.
Military action without a vote.
In one of the most important choices a member of Congress can make, Tom Kean Jr. sided with Donald Trump and Washington Republicans instead of standing up for New Jersey families.
When individuals and families in NJ7 are worried about health insurance premiums, prescription costs, and access to care, our congressman should be fighting to lower costs and protect coverage.
Instead, Tom Kean backed a budget plan that opened the door to deep Medicaid cuts, and he aligned himself with Trump’s unauthorized military action in Iran rather than insisting Congress do its job before the United States is pulled further into war.
New Jersey deserves better.

What this means for everyone in
New Jersey's 7th Congressional District
1) Health care is harder to afford
Households across New Jersey are already stretched thin by the cost of groceries, housing, child care, health care and medicine. Health insurance premiums are one more burden many households simply cannot absorb.
Instead of making affordability the priority, Tom Kean Jr and his Republican colleagues in Congress spent 2025 fighting over plans that put Medicaid and other health coverage at risk.
For families who rely on Medicaid, ACA marketplace coverage, or safety-net care, that is not an abstract policy debate. It can mean:
-
losing coverage
-
paying more every month
-
delaying doctor visits
-
skipping prescriptions
-
more financial stress for seniors, parents, caregivers, and people with disabilities
2) Medicaid cuts are hitting our relatives and neighbors
Medicaid supports children, seniors, people with disabilities, working families, and nursing home care. In New Jersey, it is a lifeline.
Cuts to Medicaid do not eliminate need. They simply shift pain onto families, hospitals, caregivers, and local communities.
That means longer waits, more uncompensated care, and more people forced to choose between their health and their household budget.
3) Congress should not give up its war powers
The Constitution gives Congress the responsibility to authorize war.
That is not a technicality. It is one of the most important checks on presidential power.
When Donald Trump launched strikes on Iran without congressional authorization, members of Congress had a choice: stand up for the Constitution or stay loyal to Trump.
Tom Kean chose loyalty to Trump.
And when politicians choose war without accountability, ordinary Americans pay the price in lives, instability, and billions of taxpayer dollars that should be invested here at home.
The wrong priorities
New Jersey families need:
-
affordable premiums
-
protected Medicaid coverage
-
lower prescription costs
-
access to doctors and hospitals
-
leaders who put families before party
Tom Kean chose:
-
a budget framework that put Medicaid on the chopping block
-
loyalty to Trump over independent judgment
-
military escalation without proper congressional authorization
-
Washington politics over New Jersey priorities
Why this matters in
our congressional district
Our district, NJ7, is full of working families, commuters, parents, retirees, and neighbors looking for practical leadership.
We are not asking for political theater. We want someone who will protect their health care, defend the Constitution, and make life more affordable.
Tom Kean Jr. had the chance to do that. But Kean chose Trump over his NJ7 constituents. He chose party over country. He chose war.
We can choose someone better.
