In spite of  bad weather, over 400 people turned out, bearing signs and slogans, chanting “no insurrection in the next election!”

A major attraction was the presence of Congressman Andy Kim, who spoke powerfully, in Westfield, Summit and Washington Borough, about his experiences on January 6, 2021, and about the importance of voting this year - and every year.

He released a statement, saying: "It was inspiring to witness so many people in New Jersey show up today at all of the rallies across the state to mark the anniversary of such a solemn day. It is vital that we never forget the assault on our Capitol on January 6th, and that as a community we keep showing up and standing up to those trying to subvert democracy and the ideals our country was founded on. I am honored to have been invited to attend and speak with so many people today- it is through the power of the people that we will restore trust back into our democracy.”

His remarks were reinforced by the many speakers who marked the occasion at the five events, undeterred by the icy cold, and the snowy conditions. Each spoke movingly about the personal and political significance of the events of that day, and reminded us of the power that resides in all of us to effect change through exercising the right to vote in every election.

A mobile electronic billboard moved from location to location, displaying images to remind all voters of what happened three years ago, and to reject all attempts to label the event as “normal political discourse.”
